Even in my Dreams
I yearn to sleep, to rest—no longer be,
To drift upon a spectral ship through night,
To realms beyond—where shadows banish light,
Where time and space dissolve in darkened sea.
Oh, let me sail upon those waves of dream,
Those ghostly tides, where phantoms softly gleam.
I yearn to bathe beneath thy tender glow,
To cast this world aside, and in thy love to know.
I crave to sleep, to rest—no more to be,
Yet Fate did weave its thread of life in me.
Thus do I wander, lost within the gloom,
Seeking thee through night’s eternal tomb—
But e’en in dreams,
Where the soul’s secret shadows take their flight,
I call for thee and find thee not in sight.
And e’en in dreams,
Thy love’s dim glow but flickers, pale and slight.
